Address: Украина, Киев, Софиевская пл.
The Monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky is some kind of Kiev’s symbol. Khmelnitsky was a statesman and military leader, Ukrainian nobleman, Registered Cossack, military yeoman and since 1648 - hetman of the Zaporozhian Cossack Hetmanate. Bogdan Khmelnitsky is considered to be the founder of the Cossack’s state on the land of Central Ukraine called The Hetmanate. The monument was erected in 1881 upon voluntary donations of Kiev citizens. The emplacement wasn’t accidental – in this place on December 23, 1648 was held part of the greeting ceremony of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, the national hero who came into the city through the Golden Gates surrounded by his devoted troops after gaining victory over Polish gentry.
