Pechersk was named after Kiev Pechersk Lavra. The beginning of 'Pechersk city' was marked by Peter I who founded the old Pechersk fortress and residence of Kiev governor. It was continued by Empress Elizabeth through construction of the Royal palace. Mulberry and lime gardens of Lavra in XVIII-XIX century once and for all were pushed out by mansions of Kiev aristocracy of those times. The most famous among them are the House of crying widow, Chocolate and Arab houses, House with Chimeras. Pechersk is one of the central districts of the city, the historical center of Kiev, diverse and extremely interesting district. Today Pechersk is also an administrative center of the capital, political elite is situated here – the Cabinet of Ministers, Presidential Administration of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada. After observation of these and other buildings of great Pechersk you will walk around one of the most beautiful Kiev parks – Mariyinsky park where a masterpiece of baroque architecture the Mariyinsky Palace is situated which today serves as the residence of President of Ukraine. Next you will walk along the openwork Love bridge and get to know a charming Puppet theater which looks like a fairy palace. At the end of the tour you will see a magnificent panorama of the city, view at Volodymyrska Girka (St. Volodymyr's Hill), Podil and the Dnieper from a sightseeing platform of the second remarkable park Kreschaty where the monument of the Soviet era 'People's Friendship Arch' which symbolizes the brotherhood of Ukrainian and Russian nations.
